What's your 30-second elevator speech?

Designer, Believer, Outfit Repeater is my life summed up in 4 words…

Graphic Design is my thing. In 2019 I was lucky enough to win awards in Australia, New Zealand, Russia & more which have given me a bigger foot in the door than your average 22 year old designer. Barge Creative was my dream at 16, and 6 years in I’m so stoked with this path I’ve taken.

Who inspires you the most to be the best you can be as a person?

Growing up both my parents worked super hard within their own businesses, carving a way for my siblings & I. The dedication they showed was incredible, but the freedom they had was something I wanted for myself! Mum is still my biggest cheerleader & inspiration today. (Cringe)

Can you tell us a little bit about your business, and the areas you specialise in?

I/Barge works with small businesses (a little bit later than the start up phase) to create intentional & functional designs. Branding & Book Design are my jam. I’m not your average creative — I love designing within grids & rules and using typography over illustrations. The majority of my training & work has fallen within the print industry, so all my work is designed with printability in mind.

Can you tell me about one of your client success stories?

Clients approach a graphic designer when they know they're onto a ‘good thing’, but they’re often held back by what’s next. Whether it be a logo, a label or a design for their packaging. Working alongside a small business owner & turning their offering/product into something saleable & appealing to their clients is always a big reward.

An older man approached me a few months ago with a concept for a book he had been dreaming up. He’d almost finished the copy but an unformatted word document wasn’t going to get him many sales. Within 2 days of working together he had a print ready book. Once we organised for it to be printed, I watched this first-time Author sell out every single copy of his beautiful book. That’s a success in my books (pardon the pun).

What’s your favourite thing about working at Motive Coworking?

Considering my business started in my shoebox bedroom, Motive is an amazing space to feel inspired, to get motivated, and more importantly stay on task. White walls, white desks, plants & good company.. What more could you want?!

What does life look like outside your business profile? What do you like doing for fun?

Boating / Fishing / Holiday-ing with a few beers in hand would be my definition of fun.

When I’m not working or enjoying the above I’m also volunteering as a youth leader at our church’s youth group! Making space for young people to stay safe on a Friday night & learn more about faith.

Is there anything you would like to share? Or anything you’d like to offer help with?

As much as I’d love to use this opportunity to share a killer offer with you, as a newbie at Motive I’d much rather use this space to say — COME SAY HI! I’d SO love to meet you all :)
+ big big big thanks to all the happy faces who have shown me the ropes along the way.

If you do happen to have a ‘good thing’ in the works (a concept/project that’s almost ready) — please get in touch to see if we can work together to design it into a saleable & profitable offering!

Bonus Question: If you were a sandwich, what sort of sandwich would you be and why?

Ham, Cheese & Aioli on Toasted Turkish Bread.

I know it’s slightly on the standard side, but at least you know what you get :P
